On June 22, 1941, Romania participated alongside with others European countries in the German invasion of the Soviet Union, in order to recover and liberate Bessarabia and Bukovina from Soviet occupation. The Romanian Army started its offensive against the Soviet Army on a battlefront stretching from the Black Sea to Bukovina’s Carpathians, and in three weeks alone, the Romanian troops completely liberated the two provinces Bessarabia and Bukovina.
